Jean-Charles Delafosse was one of the most imaginative and productive draughtsman of décor, sculptures, and architecture during the reign of Louis XVI. A particularly soft pen-stroke and brilliantly ephemeral, usually monochromatic use of wash characterise his diverse works on paper.

Delafosse designed emblems, trophies and funerary monuments, façades and portals, chimneypieces, furniture, and models for goldsmiths. Many of these drawings were engraved by contemporaries and published in albums.
