Gabriele Münter captured the winter landscape surrounding Castle Elmau in the Wetterstein Mountains in an array of drawings lithographs, and watercolours.
These works reflect each of the artist’s impressions, close to nature and true to detail, as in her transposition of the view from a tower room in the palatial hotel. The sweeping perspective extends from the workers in the foreground, attempting to clear the roofs of snow, to the distant panorama of the sun-drenched mountains.
