Like his teachers Hermanus Numan (1744-1820) und Pieter G. van Os (1776-1839), Goeje early on turned to landscape painting. He also remained true to this subject in his extensive oeuvre of works on paper.
The present watercolour bears witness to the strength of this specialization with its enormous pictorial depth and layered construction in the manner of an oil painting.
