During his lifetime, Trinquesse was particularly esteemed as a portraitist, and his drawings in red chalk enjoyed great popularity. The Académie Royale in Paris honoured him several times, and he regularly exhibited at the Salon de la Correspondance. Nevertheless, a major breakthrough was denied to Trinquesse, and this talented genre painter working in Fragonard’s shadow remains up to this day mostly loved by connoisseurs.
