From 1892 on, Feininger paid regular visits to Paris and kept a kind of diary in drawings on his walks through the city. Multiple dated drawings exist from a stroll through the old quarter of Montmartre on April 7, 1908,1 one of which depicts the house shown on the right in this drawing, with its characteristic retaining walls, from the opposite direction (Fig.1).
