Theodor Weller spent his most creative years of production in Italy during several multi-year visits there from 1825-33 and 1840-48. The detailed genre scenes of many of his paintings and drawings bear witness in particular to the major influences of that time. Later, Weller was appointed as court painter and director of the picture gallery in his hometown of Mannheim.
