Friederike Grimm, depicted here, was born on 23 July 1833 as the painter’s only child. Numerous drawings bespeak the close relationship between father and daughter, in whose household the father also spent his last years. The present portraits formed, together with a handwritten poem by Ludwig Emil Grimm, part of the sitter’s family album.
